None a news could have made me more excited than the news of Prof. Stephen Hawking's PhD thesis going online.I found it on the University of Cambridge's website.The news took me aback.Currently, two versions are available: a pdf version and a high definition version (not downloadable).The thesis - ‘Properties of expanding universes’ was made available by the University's Open Access repository, Apollo.With around 2 million views in just 6 days, it had crashed its host site itself!
As Stephen Hawking himself states;
"Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before them, just as I did as a young Ph.D. student in Cambridge, inspired by the work of Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Albert Einstein," Hawking added. "It's wonderful to hear how many people have already shown an interest in downloading my thesis—hopefully they won’t be disappointed now that they finally have access to it!"
It's surprising that so many people want to read something they will barely understand! Well, it's worth giving a look at.
