Of all the types of pens available, why fountain pens? Why use some 133 year old technology rather than newer pens? Why not ball or roller ball pens?I have been attacked by such questions for as long as I can remember. For, I have been using fountain pens for as long as I can remember.
The first pen I used was a fountain pen. That was four years ago.The pen I used is the same one I use today; however, it's a different one but the same model. It was a Parker Vector fountain pen.Although the usage of fountain pens in my school is restricted, I have been using them for the past 4 years and never have I been said not to.Why, I don't know.I have tried out all sorts of pens but only fountain pens seem to make me write more.It is through them that I developed an interest in writing.Writing in all sorts.Long form and short form.
So, why do I use a fountain pen?
Primarily, I have always been fond of old things; using a 20th century dictionary, reading very old and obscure books, and using a fountain pen-I can't explain this character of mine.
Secondly, most geniuses used fountain pens.Yes, most of them lived in the 20th century and roller balls and other pens weren't that famous at that time. Now, it's the opposite.Hardly anyone uses fountain pens.Me, aspiring to become a great theoretical physicist one day, had to make sure to use a fountain pen :)
Lastly (of these three reasons; there are numerous other reasons but for now, I'll restrict it to three), it is quite easy to change the colour of the ink. Also, there are sundry discrete types of inks available.Even waterproof ones.
Namely, these are the reasons.Although I use fountain pens for every sort of writing, I use ballpoint or roller ball pens for my examinations. This is because the paper are scanned and it's better to be on the safe side.Last summer, I was so concerned about the usage of fountain pens in my examinations that I went ahead and asked Cambridge International Examinations about it.I did get a reply, an affirmative one. They said I could use a fountain pen for my boards but, I'll just remain on the safer side and use ballpoint pens. You can read the request and answer here.
That's all in this post about fountain pens.
P.S.I didn't know what to write about but knew that I had to write something so I looked around for ideas.Of all those that came to me, I thought it was best to write about what I write with 😉.
